Porcelain Veneers

If you’re self-conscious about your smile due to chipped, stained, discolored, unevenly spaced, or slightly crooked front teeth, porcelain veneers can change the way you feel. With a simple three-step procedure, we can create a natural, pleasing smile: bonding thin, shell-like coverings to the problem teeth, thereby creating a more attractive color, shape or size. And in many cases, veneers can provide a natural-looking, long-lasting, stain-resistant alternative to crowns.

1

Assessment & Planning

Before creating your veneers, Dr. Carano will carefully evaluate your specific situation, listening to the exact changes you have in mind. He'll also do several things to help you visualize your end result. First, you'll look at photos of similar case outcomes. In addition, he will obtain an impression of your mouth and make a "diagnostic wax up", which provides you a three-dimensional representation your expected results. Also, he may use a computer enhancement program to provide you with several options prior to performing the actual procedure.
2

Preparation & Customization

Once Dr. Carano has determined a specific course of action, he'll gently prepare your teeth for the veneers. He will do so by buffing or filing approximately one half of a millimeter from the surface of each recipient tooth. Occasionally, this step requires a local anesthetic. Then, he will take a mold or impression of your teeth and send it to our professional dental laboratory, Functional Esthetics. Under Dr. Carano's careful supervision, your veneers will be expertly produced for a custom-fit.
3

Application & Protection

Once the veneers have been designed, Dr. Carano will carefully test their fit and color by applying them temporarily with water or glycerine. When you're both completely happy with their compatibility, look, feel, and fit, he'll permanently affix them to your teeth with dental cement. Then, we'll apply a visible light beam to activate the cement's hardening agent, creating a beautiful finished product.
4

Maintenance & Care

Just as you would with any significant investment, you'll want to maintain your new smile with regular, expert care. Which means, daily cleaning, flossing, and regular dental visits for professional follow-up care and maintenance. You may also want to consider a night-guard to prevent any accidental gritting or grinding pressure while you sleep.
